Our Projects

Much of our work is tailored to the immediate needs of the children, which means our priorities are always evolving. Our main project is the construction of a new center in Kigamboni, designed to strengthen long-term sustainability and provide a nurturing environment. Alongside this effort, we focus on healthcare and education access for all children, while also addressing the specific needs of each child, especially those who are new to institutional care.

Chakuwama Mpya

Building a Sustainable Future

Chakuwama Mpya, or “New Chakuwama,” is our most ambitious project yet. Located in Mwasonga, Kigamboni, it will become the permanent home for primary school–aged children of Chakuwama, freeing the orphanage from the burden of rent and ensuring long-term sustainability.

The center is designed in family-style units, with four children per room and eight per group, encouraging close bonds and healthy development. The first phase will house 32 children, with the capacity to expand in the future.

A pre-primary school on site will provide free, high-quality education for children at the center and the surrounding community. Tuition income will support the orphanage’s move toward self-sufficiency, reducing reliance on donor funding.

Following a devastating fire in 2023, this project has become especially urgent. More than a building, Chakuwama Mpya represents security, education, and opportunity for every child, created in partnership with the leadership and caregivers of Chakuwama.

We are thrilled to share that Chakuwama Mpya is now about 65% complete. With plumbing and electrical installations finished, construction has moved into the next stage of plastering and completing the interior wall.

Access to Health Care

Access to consistent, quality healthcare is essential for every child’s well-being, yet it is often one of the most overlooked needs in orphan care. At Project Lots of LOVE, we are committed to ensuring that every child receives the care they need, from routine checkups to specialized treatments.

Health Insurance Coverage

In the summer of 2025, we received sponsorship to enroll all children under 18 in the National Health Insurance Fund’s Toto Afya Kadi policy. This was a major milestone in our mission to make healthcare more consistent and dependable for every child.

Each Toto Afya Kadi policy costs 150,000 TZS per child and 50,000 TZS per adult each year. To maintain coverage, we will need renewed sponsorship in December 2026. Sponsoring a child’s health insurance provides access to hospitals, medications, and preventive care that are otherwise out of reach.

In addition to insurance, some children require more critical care, including orthodontic treatment, psychiatric support, and HIV management. Individual sponsorships for these medical needs help provide specialized care that makes a life-changing difference.

Advocacy and Policy Reform

In the summer of 2025, we also began advocating for changes to the Toto Afya Kadi policy to make healthcare more accessible for children in institutional care. Our proposal called for orphanage centers to enroll children as a group, similar to the process already in place for schools. This would reduce costs and simplify enrollment, making it easier for centers to secure coverage for every child.

We are proud to share that, as a direct result of this advocacy, NHIF will now allow orphans to register without a birth certificate—removing a major barrier that prevented many children from accessing essential healthcare.

Sponsorships for health insurance and specialized care directly impact a child’s ability to thrive. Your support ensures that every child has access to the care they need today and the chance for a healthier future tomorrow.

Education Support

Education is one of the most powerful tools for breaking the cycle of poverty and creating opportunity, yet for many orphans, access to education is filled with challenges. At Project Lots of LOVE, we take time to understand each child’s individual needs and learning goals so that we can help every student reach their full potential.

School Registration and Placement

For many children entering institutional care, school registration can be complex. Some arrive late to formal schooling, meaning they have passed the typical age for first grade and require extra support to begin their education. Others face challenges with transfer registration when they cannot recall or do not wish to share where they come from. We work closely with local schools and government offices to ensure every child can enroll and continue their studies without stigma or delay.

Sponsorship and Advancment

Our children attend government schools for both primary and secondary education. When a student demonstrates exceptional academic ability, we seek sponsorships to enroll them in private schools, where they can receive a higher quality education and more individualized attention.

After secondary school, all education in Tanzania requires payment. Whether a student chooses a technical training program, college diploma, or university degree, we remain committed to supporting their goals and helping them build a future filled with opportunity.
